TOOTH WHITENING

Tooth whitening is a fast, easy, and safe procedure to create beautiful white teeth.

There are many reasons teeth discolour including medicines, smoking, staining foods and drinks, and natural aging. Whitening is a great option to safely lighten discoloured teeth.

Tooth whitening involves taking dental moulds and custom making thin trays that hold the bleaching gel on to your teeth.

The length of time trays need to be worn each day may vary depending on the strength of the gel given by your dental professional.

Bleach daily until desired results are achieved (typically 2 weeks).

Before commencing tooth whitening, it is important there are no other dental problems present.

How does tooth whitening work?

The bleach contains carbamide peroxide, which breaks down into tiny molecules (oxygen radicals) and migrate through the tooth breaking down any coloured molecules that cause the tooth discolouration.  The entire tooth does not need to be covered by bleach for this to work.

Any existing fillings, veeners or crowns will not lighten.

How long does bleaching last?

Over time, due to lifestyle and dietary habits, the process may need to be redone regularly.

Top up bleaching gel is available in store.

Does bleaching harm my teeth or cause any side effects?

There have been numerous studies performed showing that enamel, dentine, existing fillings are not affected by tooth whitening.

Side Effects
Tooth sensitivity and gum irriation are the most common side effects of tooth whitening.

Please advise your dental professional if any of the above occur so they can help.
